Peaceful pruning
I walked by your house today
And saw some plants on your balcony
Your car was there
The windows were closed
I don’t know since when your windows are shut
And your plants look gray
Somehow I feel like there is less life there
Then there would be with me
Maybe it’s just me, a fool
Full of myself to the point of thinking
Your house looks lonelier and so do you
Do I look lonelier too?
I had a dream today that we had kids
Maybe because I do have a kid at home
And he gives me peace just as much as he takes
But, since he is asleep
I am finally at peace with my plants
Some, you gave me
Others, I bought
Many were stolen, like you taught me
And as they grow, they give me peace
All you wanted was a girl to give you peace
All I asked for was a peaceful man
We’ve both been looking for peace
Where there was none
In war zones
Ship wrecks
Broken hearts
And hungry caterpillars
Why did we cut each other off with our gardener’s scissors
When there was so much green left to groom
